Fire Beat Dix Hills 2-1

The Fire hosted the Dix Hills Panthers today and held off a furious 2nd half attack to come away with a 2-1 win.

The first half we played well and attacked them generating chances. It was the Panthers though who scored first taking advantage of loose ball in front of the net. We were not overly concerned as we were giving it to them as much as they came at us. We did get the equalizer eventually and were trying to press for more.

The second half we didn't do as well. Our injuries were catching up to us a bit and Dix Hills was pressing and taking the play to us. We couldn't get controll of the play and were just clearing the ball out before they would gather it and come back at us. Then a nice pass up to our forward saw a bit of a breakaway. she ran full speed after the ball as the keeper came out for it. A collision looked inevitable and there was one. Through the collision, somehow our forward was able to get the ball to go forward past the keeper as they all went to the ground. The ball went rolling towards the goal and it looked like it was taking forever as the defenders came chasing back. They were not fast enough as the ball went into the goal for a 2-1 lead! We were able to hold them off as they came after us hard. Final 2-1 Fire.

Great way to hold them off girls! Not our best display of skill in the second half but you found a way to win! Great job girls!
