Fire Start Season with Victory

The Fire opened the regular season at home vs the RVC Racers and came away with a 2-0 victory.

Our first hurdle of the regular season saw the RVC Racers come to town to challenge us. Luckily the ref gave permission to our invalid to play with the bubble wrap on her cast. We now had 13 to play the game and it was a huge improvement over having only 11 (barely) to play our Walbaums game.

The girls came out with confidence and it showed. They controlled the ball well and moved around to each other much better this week. It took a little while to generate any good chance for us but we started shooting on goal finally. We had some nice through balls and nice crosses but their keeper was up to the task. Meanwhile our defense kept them from any significant opportunities. Towards the end of the half we finally broke through as our hard work paid off. Some good combinations and a good cross found one of our forwards in front of the net and she burried it home for a 1-0 lead. That's how the first half ended.

We didn't want RVC to gain any confidence so we came at them in the second half hoping to get a goal to end their hopes. It took a while but again hard work paid off and a loose ball in front of the net found an open goal which was burried with authority for a 2-0 lead. The game finished this way and we went home with a 2-0 victory.

Great way to start the seaon girls. We haven't played that well in a long time!
